...streaming brand new music since 1999...

The Internet home of brand new power pop and rock that seriously doesn't suck!

Throwback Suburbia "Shot Glass Souvenir"

Portland's Throwback Suburbia continues to release one solid LP after another, and "Shot Glass Souviner" is arguably their best yet.  Super hook filled songs, masterfully produced, abundant harmonies,  this is one of those rare albums that is solid from start to finish.

This band simply gets it, throwing in just the right chord at the right time, never overdoing it, just having fun playing power pop that is both retro and current at the same time.

I can't recommend "Shot Glass Souvenir" enough... fans of Jellyfish, Cheap Trick, Redd Kross and Ben Folds certainly should pay close attention to Throwback Suburbia. This is premium stuff!

You can hear tracks from "Shotglass Souvenir" all month long on Popbang radio!

Popbang Radio's SINGLE OF THE WEEK...

Redd Kross "Researching The Blues" The title track from their first album in 15 years shows that the band hasn't lost anything... in fact, this may be their most focused, rocked out album ever!  I had a chance to see them play live in Minneapolis this month, and it was easily the best rock show I have seen in years!  Can they top "Phaseshifter"?  That is a tough task, but Redd Kross is up for it, and I bet they will!  I suggest you pre-order your copy now at their website! Grade A+ stuff!

More new music on Popbang Radio...

The Hives "Go Right Ahead"  The first single from their new album LEX HIVES is classic Hives.  Everything you come to expect from the Swedish rockers is here.  Hooks, energy, and a ton of rawk!  Is this ground breaking stuff for The Hives?  Nope.... and that's good!  Dont fix it if it's not broken!

The Kicks "Hawk Eyes"  Wow, why did I not know about this band??  Proof that there is so much killer stuff out there waiting to be heard.  The Kicks kick one thing, and that is my ass.  "Hawk Eyes" is all hook and groove and seriously good stuff.  You will be hearing more of The Kicks on Popbang Radio in the future for sure.

Sam Page "Lottery" This came out of nowhere.  Think Donovan writing the verse and Dave Grohl and Matthew Sweet writing the chorus.  Perfectly produced, and Sam plays the hell out this.  Indie stuff doesn't get better than this.  This is Top 10 of the year material.

Words "Calling Alameda" Minneapolis band WORDS hasn't made new music in almost 20 years.  Led by Jeff Anderson and Matt VanSlooten, the two craft meldodic rock that is a mix of The Monkees and The Kinks, with Brian Wilson inspired harmonies. A welcome return, and a Popbang Radio exclusive.  Very good stuff.

The 88 "Do You Love Me"  Few bands are as consistent as The 88 when it comes to putting out nothing but high quality rock and roll.  Always busy, as Ray Davies back up band, doing soundtrack music for TV and Movies, or putting out killer stuff on their own, you are guaranteed to get rocked by The 88.  "Do You Love Me" is one of the most heartfelt ballads these ears have heard in quite some time. Ballads don't suck when they are this good.  An awesome EP that will hold us over until the next full length album. Dig this!

Trixter "Tattoos & Misery" Steve Brown and company  have thrown out the first new Trixter album in 8 years, and the first of all new originals in 20 years!  WTF and Holy Shiot this does not suck!  It's not like they haven't been busy the last 20 years with other killer projects (40 Ft Ringo, Stereo Fallout), and this new album is all killer and no filler!  A ton of hooks, boat loads of melody, and awesome song writing from start to finish.

The Breakups  "i'm thinking of a number between 1 and 99"  What a superb way to start off 2012.  The Breakups return with a full length LP full of warm hooks, lush harmonies, and wonderful melodies.  "im thinking of a number..."  is just starters for what should hopefully be a breakout year for the breakups.  Come next December, you will see this LP on many many "Best of 2012" lists, mark my words. Incredible.

Scorpions "Tainted Love" Ya know, I have never been a huge Scorps fan.  A good song here and there, but never went out and bought an album, but I do respect their place in rock history.  Now in 2012 the release "Comeblack", and you can throw away the first half of the album, where they cover themselves... but things get interesting when they deliver a kick ass version of  The Kinks "All The Day and All Of The Night", a really nice version of The Beatles "Across the Universe", and this KILLER version of "Tainted Love".  This is what arena rock was meant to sound like.  Way to go Scorpions!

Drowner "Never Go Away"  The second I heard this song, I tweeted "nearly 8 minutes of 2 chords, fuzzy noise, strange harmonies, and it all seems to beautifully work".  Not much else needs to be said about this hauntingly gorgeous epic.  Never has 2 chords sounded so emotionally true and raw.  Simply incredible.

Watershed "American Muscle/Sticky Bomb" Ohio's Watershed claims to be "Rock and Roll's Last Hope", and this may very well be the case.  Their last album, "The Fifth Of July" is one of my favorite Top 20 albums of all time.  It is killer to get some brand new music from the guys!  The first single from the upcoming album, "American Muscle" is a bit of departure from their straight ahead  melodic rock, and instead sounds more like a Ben Folds meets Jellyfish jam. Deep harmonies and a fun vibe lights up the songs semi-serious message. B-side "Sticky Bomb" is classic Watershed, with Colin Gawel's signature growl, and plenty of "Oh Yeah"s.   A big time return for Watershed!

Glen Campbell "There's No Me... Without You"  Glen's follow up to the awesome "Meet Glen Campbell", "Ghost on the Canvas" is an awesome LP of power pop to finish off Glen's incredible career.  Produced by one of the best producers today, Julian Raymond (Cheap Trick, Fastball), and guests like Rick Nielson (Cheap Trick), Jason Falkner and Roger Manning Jr (Jellyfish), Wendy Melvoin (The Revolution) and Brian Setzer (Stray Cats), Glen finishes off his recording career with this incredible track that begins with something that could have been a track on his former band, The Beach Boy's "Pet Sounds". Glen is an incredible guitar player, singer, and song writer.  What a way to go out ... on top!  Easily a Top 10 LP of the year.
