I've got two words for you. WOW! and WOW! Easily the debut of the year, this New England band wastes no time in showing their roots, with the Jellyfish/Wondermints/Weezer inspired opening track "Her Camera", and it only gets better after that.
The songwriting is top notch, and the pop factor is high here, with tracks like "Hollywood Blues" (could have easily been a track on "Spilt Milk") and "At Any Time", which might be the best ballad that David Gates never wrote.
Don't miss this one. Everything here is super high premium quality rock, and this is a band that seriously gets it. Albums like this are what keep music lovers loving music. 100% Grade A stuff!

The Dollyrots "Rock Control" Whoever invented the volume knob must have had The Dollyrots in mind. Lead singer Kelly Ogden shows her Joan Jett meets Kim Shattuck roots with a killer vocal, and prime time producer Evan Frankfort polishes off the great songwriting to make "Rock Control" THE rock anthem of 2010. We always knew The Dollyrots could rock your ass off... we just know didn't they could RAWK like this!?! Be prepared to have this song stuck in your head for the rest of the year (at least!). A+ stuff!

The Posies "Licenses to Hide" Holy cow! The Posies never cease to amaze me! The first track available from the upcoming "Blood/Candy" CD is a mini-epic that could have easily been on Styx's "Pieces Of Eight". This band isn't kidding around this time. Everything you expect from The Posies (melody, harmony, great song writing) is here and more. If this is a sign of things to come for "Blood/Candy", this could be the LP of the year! AWESOME stuff!
Weezer "Memories"Weezer doesn't waste any time. Their 3rd LP in 3 years, and hot off of dumping Geffen for Epitaph records, their first indie record "Hurley" is due out in September. Let's get something straight right off the bat. "Pinkerton" was a good album, but the band has moved on! Time for old school Weez heads to move on with them. "Memories" is a killer kick off single, and is trademark Weezer. 3 chords, hooks-a-plenty, and everything that real power pop fans want out of a song. SWEET!
Devo "March On" Easily the best Devo record ever, "March On" finishes off the fantastic "Something For Everybody". This band has always had a knack for hooks with their quirky brand of synth pop, but they have matured into a melodic rock band that will hopefully keep recording for many years to come. This is one heck of a summer party album, and the 12" blue vinyl LP is well worth the price. Easily the comeback LP of the year. Long live DEVO!
Farrah "Swings & Roundabouts" What a powerhouse of supurbness this is! UK's Farrah return with an incredible melodic buffet that sounds like Bens Fold Five doing their best ELO. This is Top 5 of 2010, and its not even close. Everything from the songwriting to the production is A+! Do not, do not, do NOT miss this one. Really excellent stuff!
The Genuine Fakes "I Don't Want It" Sweden's best kept secret is easily The Genuine Fakes. They have yet to release an album, but the buzz on this band is deservingly huge! They don't hide the fact that they are all about power pop, and fans of Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, The Posies and The Merrymakers will welcome The Genuine Fakes with open arms. This band aint kidding around... they are serious about climbing to the top of the power pop charts, and with super high quality music like "I Don't Want It", they deserve to get there. Look for the first full length album in the fall of 2010.
Jackdaw4 "Pornography" From the forthcoming "The Eternal Struggle For Justice", UK's Jackdaw4 return with an uptempo harmonic rocker that does not dissapoint. Their 1st two albums were on many (including mine) Top 10 of the year lists, making this easily one of the most anticipated albums of the year. A must hear for fans of Jellyfish, The Beatles, Splitsville and Teenage Fanclub. Wow... this is really really killer stuff!
Lollipop Factory "Eat Cake" WARNING: Before you listen to the title track from Lollipop Factory's new EP, you better have a seat, put the dog outside, warn your neighbors, and crank your speakers. This is a sonic explosion of guitars and harmony that mixes Queen and Queens of the Stone Age, with no shortage on hooks and wall of sound production. I'm not kidding around here when I say that this is a HUGE power driven melodic masterpiece.
